Embrace the Future!

As the legislative session winds down, Louisiana stands at a crossroads. Lawmakers can either lean into innovation and protect one of the state’s most important industries, or continue entertaining attacks that risk undermining both economic growth and energy leadership.

Carbon capture has become a flashpoint. Critics have amplified fears, often aligning with leftist national activist narratives that seek to phase out traditional energy altogether. But in Louisiana, the reality looks very different. Carbon capture is about strengthening the oil and gas industry, extending its viability, and positioning the state as a leader in next-generation energy.

Louisiana is uniquely suited for this opportunity. With decades of expertise in subsurface geology, existing pipeline infrastructure, and a skilled workforce, the state has every advantage. That is why companies are investing here. These projects bring jobs, local revenue, and long-term economic stability, particularly in regions that have powered the nation for generations.

Turning against carbon capture now would send the wrong signal. It would tell investors that Louisiana is uncertain, reactive, and willing to sacrifice opportunity under pressure. More of the same type of behavior that got us here. Other states are not hesitating. If Louisiana steps back, the investment will simply go elsewhere.

There is also a broader concern. Efforts to slow or block carbon capture often echo talking points that ultimately target the oil and gas industry itself. That industry remains the backbone of Louisiana’s economy. Weakening it, directly or indirectly, risks jobs, tax revenue, and community stability across the state.

Lawmakers should be clear-eyed about what is at stake. Supporting carbon capture does not mean ignoring safety or oversight. It means setting smart regulations, maintaining transparency, and allowing projects to move forward responsibly. It means working with industry, not against it.

This is a moment for leadership. Louisiana can choose to compete, innovate, and lead in energy for decades to come. Or it can get bogged down in political fights that benefit no one.

The path forward is clear. Leave the attacks behind. Stop borrowing agendas that do not fit Louisiana. Focus on policies that strengthen the state’s core industries and open doors to future growth.

Done right, carbon capture is not a threat. It is an opportunity Louisiana cannot afford to miss.
