The Political Coalition Behind the Anti CCS Movement
Perhaps the most revealing detail in the record is not just the emails but the coalition itself.
In November 2024, LA CO2 Alliance participated in a climate protest in Baton Rouge alongside a long list of progressive activist organizations, including the Sierra Club, Louisiana DSA, Party for Socialism and Liberation Louisiana, Sunrise Movement NOLA, and others. That is not a cross section of moderate civic groups. That is a lineup straight out of the national progressive playbook.
At the same time, LA CO2 Alliance board members were communicating with Sierra Club regional organizers about “protecting Louisiana from this crazy CC&S idea” and seeking regular coordination calls with activist groups across the country.
The pattern is consistent. Coordinated meetings. Shared strategy sessions. Cross promotion of training events. Joint protests. National funding pipelines.
None of this is illegal. But it is political. And it directly contradicts the image of a purely local, non ideological effort.
Carbon capture and storage is a complex issue with legitimate debate on both sides. But that debate should be honest. When organizations present themselves as grassroots defenders of property rights while partnering with national political advocacy groups that have a long history of fighting traditional energy development, voters deserve to know.
Transparency matters. Especially when outside activist networks are shaping the future of Louisiana’s energy economy.
