Save My Louisiana Collaborates With Bernie Sanders And George Soros-AliGned Group

Save My Louisiana actions continue to show that it’s anything but the conservatives they claim to be. The organization has begun working with the Bernie Sanders-aligned and George Soros-funded group More Perfect Union (MPU), creating a slickly-produced video highlighting their collaboration.

MPU’s Executive Director is Faiz Shakir, the former campaign manager to Bernie Sanders’ 2020 Presidential Campaign. Shakir’s LinkedIn account indicates that he still serves as Sanders’ Chief Political Advisor. He also previously worked for the liberal think tank Center for American Progress, running their outlet ThinkProgress.

MPU maintains a 501(c)(4), More Perfect Union Action, whose largest donor is the Open Society Action Fund, run by George Soros which provided almost $2.5 million. MPU is also supported by well-known liberal nonprofits such as the Ford Foundation, the Hopewell Fund, and the Hewlett Foundation. Despite claiming they do not receive money from union entitles, a review of the Department of Labor’s LM2 database, which tracks payments by unions, found that MPU received $5,700 from the AFL-CIO in 2025.  

SML’s partnership with More Perfect Union makes clear that the organization's conservative branding is a facade. Backed by George Soros, Bernie Sanders allies, and major liberal foundations, the group's true ideological home is far to the left of the Louisiana values it claims to defend.
